Society for Management of Agri-Rural Projects

Society for Management of Agri -Rural Project, Kanpur (SMARP) was established in the year 1998 by a team of 3 eminent retired agricultural scientists namely Dr. N.S Kushwaha, Former Vice-Chancellor, Gramodaya Viswavidyalaya, Chitrakoot, Dr. Daulat Singh, Former Director of Extension, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur and Dr. O.N. Mehrotra, Former Director of Research, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur with the mandate of providing “Project management, consultancy, capacity building of stakeholders, education, community mobilization, health & sanitation, women empowerment, rural livelihood security, research & development and publications, participatory rural management etc. services to the extension system, farmers, bankers and other development partners for rural growth and farmers reap the benefit of innovations in the farm sector”. Project/Programme Management

Screening of new projects, conducting feasibility studies and prepares projects to assess viability of micro rural livelihood promotion, social, economic and technical programmes.

Capacity Building
Conducting and participating in capacity building events, seminars, workshops and exhibitions at national, state and grass root levels for enhancing knowledge and skills of beneficiaries.
Rural Livelihood Security
Taking activities leading to rural livelihood security in Uttar Pradesh. Out sourcing of man power, capacity building, implementation and participatory management programmes.
Study and Publication
Consistence with technical capability and capacity of the society, several new studies and impacts are researched and future models are developed. Society has also conducted.

Project and Programme Management

  • Screening of new projects, conducting feasibility studies and prepares projects to assess viability of micro rural livelihood promotion, social, economic and technical programmes.
  • Monitoring project activities involving coordination with Govt., Private and project Partners to ensure smooth execution of projects within the stipulated time and resource.
  • Administering preparation of proposals for funding agencies and project partners as well as donor agencies for timely execution of projects.
  • Since inception, SMARP completed more than 25 projects funded by different organizations.

Capacity Building

 

  • Conducting and participating in capacity building events, seminars, workshops and exhibitions at national, state and grass root levels for enhancing knowledge and skills of beneficiaries.
  • Piloting and implementing programmes to improve the pace and quality of economic development specially relating to the villages and decentralized sectors.

Research & Development and Publications

Consistence with technical capability and capacity of the society, several new studies and impacts are researched and future models are developed. Society has also conducted several impact studies sponsored by World Bank, European Union, Asian Dev. Bank, UPCAR; ICAR, Govt. of U.P. and Govt. of India.

Experiences of consultancies have been published in the form of books.

Uttar Pradesh Diversified Agricultural Support Project (UPDASP)

The project covered 32 districts in Uttar Pradesh and society served as a associated NGO for mobilization, training and implementation of programmes in the project. Organized training programmes of farmers, KisanMitras, farm women in the transfer of different technologies selected for the project. Arranged field days, demonstrations and exposure visits. Facilitated better coordination among district administration, bankers, IIM, AMC and DASP officials. Created and managed commodity groups like seed production, sheep and goat and dairy groups, bee- keeping, bio-compost and vermiculture groups. Facilitated group formation, group nurturing etc.

U.P. Health System Development Project (Uttar Pradesh)

The project has been sponsored by Deptt. of Medical Health and Family Welfare U.P. 14 villages were covered for sanitation, vaccination, family planning and general awareness about programmes and schemes developed for the welfare of villagers of remote locations. Awareness-cum-motivation campaigns were organized. A health centre was also established manned by a Doctor, Lady Doctor, ANM, trained Dai and 3 social workers. The station was monitored and paid by the society.

Our Inspiration

Born in January 6, 1934 in village Bakshara, Distt. Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, India, educated from world’s premier institutions. Served as Block Development Officer, BakshiKa Talab, Lucknow U.P, Vice Principal, Gram Sewak Training Centre Bichpuri, Agra, Prof. & head Division of Extension & Training Govt. Agri. College/ U.P. Instt, of Agri. Sciences, Kanpur, Director of Extension, C.S.A. University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur, Coordinator for 3 years Nigeria (West Africa), World Bank, Zonal Coordinator (U.P. & Bihar), Govt. of India, ICAR, Consortium Partner of NAIP(C3), ICAR, Member of U.P. Council of Agri. Research, Advisor to UP SRLP, Advisor to UP DASP, Govt. of U.P., Member Joint Advisory, Committee of Television & Radio, Lucknow, Govt. of U.P.
